It's not to keep them in line. If you look at how they keep their own in line, it tends to involve less thirdie chest beating and more of pic related.
This kind of stuff is meant to get the population more militaristic, and create a sense of social mobilization. These sort of demonstrations are one of the cheapest ways to achieve both, since it's being done with existing gear, instead of getting a mass of shrieking supporters into squares with banners and what not. This shit is what I hate about totalitarian style social engineering. Because they need to do shit like this 24/7, because the moment they stop , he sense of societal momentum begins to fade and the peasants start asking questions about why they have to live in squalor. Combine that with the sort of compulsive need to control society that autocrats in these systems (Xi being one) demonstrate, you get some of the most laughable domestic messaging on earth, that only the population of the Indian subcontinent and Elon Musk buy.
It might sound like pedantic, but I'm a semi professional Chink whisperer, and I barely have a chance to talk about how these sorts of governments operate.
On one final note, this kind of content is worrying, because the Chinese have been shilling this exact kind of messaging non stop for years to the point where it has begun to veer into Mao levels of commitment to ideology. And one thing about totalitarian governments, is that they are able to commit to what dearest leader wants no matter what. I'm not going to lie, I think war is sooner than a lot of people think.
