I kinda doubt the veracity of your story, only in the sense that an Austrian tourist would choose Chicago as their first destination in their debut travels to the US. I've spoken to a lot of euroids who's only impression of Chicago comes from rap music and gang violence, so they wouldn't even consider stepping foot here because they think it's a death penalty. Strange that it's someone's first choice.
That being said, did you enjoy your trip? Did you like the food in Chicago? I know a lot of Europeans also consider the food in America to be toxic, chemical laden sloppa (they're right, it is) so they either starve themselves or they eat tiny portions and cry the entire time, but it's the best chemical sloppa in the country, so if you didn't like the food in Chicago unfortunately you probably won't like any other amerigoy cuisine. Did you get around or did you mostly stay in the loop? Curious to see what you thought of the ethnic enclaves, like Chinatown, little Italy, Greek Town or the Ukrainian village. I know European cities aren't as segregated as Chicago where each ethnicity has their own neighborhoods and rarely do they mix; that was quite a shock for some of my European friends.
Also I'm sorry you couldn't visit our fair city 100+ years ago, if you had a time machine, you'd have been able to communicate only in German and have been totally fine for your Chicago trip; that's how many Germans live in the Midwest, but of course that was before the German Americans were culturally genocided by the anglos.
