I dunno I kinda get it. My sibling and I were gonna get some after our childhood doggos died but I never ended up doing it. Especially if it's your childhood dog you grew up with that connection is way more special as they feel much more like actual family. The dogs I've had since losing my childhood ones I still love but I've definitely kept at more of a distance because as an adult you understand how short their lives are, whereas as a child you're naïve and really let them into you 'soul' as it were and you're not concerned how much damage inevitably losing them relatively quickly will do.
Still tho doggos are amazing, they're the only creatures that will literally die trying to protect you so it makes sense why people get so connected.
