It seems I spent quite a while in hotels that were for some reason IP rangebanned on 4chan.

Anyway, I managed to write a new update that touches on some of my journeys and experiences in Japan and how they have contextualized some stuff in Touhou:

Thanks. The mystery of the figure carved in stone will remain a mystery, then.

Yukari is a very common and loud one and does not appear to be some unambiguously evil figure IRL. There appears to be some connection to her appearances and the cycles of Venus and Moon (Evening Star, Night Falls and all that).

The reason why they start appearing - for lack of better term - is that they vibe with you some way. What that way is, only you can really say, and figuring out that why is probably a good next move.

Every tradition has it's own way of praying, but beings like Yukari and Remilia are outside of any tradition. Just try to connect with them. Silent prayer is probably good and is the norm in Japan.

"Losing their mind" comes with a constellation of what the doctors call "negative symptoms" and none of the people here are exhibiting such.
>I find it difficult to believe in any of this
It is a big leap to make.
>That sort of stuff makes me feel like maybe this is just genuine shintoism in a way
Shinto is just the name for Japanese traditions and practices for dealing with the souled world. The kami probably exist as distinct (as much as anything in the world is so) entities, but ultimately there are "kami" everywhere in the world.

When it comes to Shinto in particular, I have felt extremely strong connection with some things that I have no pre-existing attachment to, in particular the Sumiyoshi Sanjin kami. This sense of attachment was so strong I was compelled to revisit the shrine and get a Sumiyoshi ofuda.
>But i cannot deny feeling like some places i've visited in my life have been "charged", it's hard to explain
You should forget all preconceived notions, forget Touhou, forget what kind of people talked about this and just explore those kind of places and the way it feels "charged".

August 18th is just 4 day different from August 22nd, it is still very, very close for what's it worth.
