As long as either the Treasury or the manufacturer gets paid upfront instead of on credit, I am fine with this. I don't want this to become some kind of student loan gig where I'm on the hook for a delinquent debtor.

Working with internal Iranian forces is ideal if we're going to do regime change. I wouldn't want to get directly involved and waste resources on a project with potential for major backlash. The threat of a direct action is a more likely to be effective than actual direct action, especially while a third force is bombarding their civilians.
The main thing is that this requires some negotiating with those people who would take power, e.g. the Shah, and some understanding that the Council of Experts would want some fairly concrete promises in exchange for peace, such as us forcing Israel to stop their attacks on Iran and probably relieve them of sanctions. But we would benefit from many of those promises we would make to them, for example by being able to trade with them again, so I'd consider it worthwhile as long as we get some very hefty wins in the deal. Again, Iran needs to pay us reparations for the harms done by the Islamic Republican regime and allow US citizens full freedom to engage in missionary work, including by granting their own citizens the right to become Christians.
