You know I agree. Might be rose tinted glasses but I feel that the OG designs and some years after release were personally very unique in the market because of their (mostly) down to earth feel and cultural nods. Now everything (GF2 included) tries to do something pseudofuturistic or pseudofantasy and they all blend together into some bland mosh. Almost all are very safe and bandwagony. I can't tell gacha designs apart anymore whatsoever. It's a shame because the designs are what got me into GF1 shortly after its EN release and why I buy a bunch of figures of the characters to try and preserve the "indie game's" aesthetic because of how unknown it is internationally.
I will however say that I really like some PNC designs. I'm eagerly waiting on my Vee figure.
