I love looking over a lake at night and seeing the lights of buildings on the other side. It's comfy and quiet, but reminds me I'm not alone.
When I was little I lived in a place kind of close to train tracks. Not so close that they were loud, but close enough that, sometimes in the middle of the night, I could hear the train horn sounding as it came near the town. I felt like the only person awake in the world, and then the horn sounded and I knew there was someone else out there at the same moment. He didn't ever know I existed, but I felt close to him in a weird way.
