Tragically though after WW2 the White man's guilt fully set in and they developed the modern concept of land theft by international law for the rest of the world, which only in the 20th century began to codify principles against conquest and forced annexation. Prior, wars of conquest and forced displacement were common and often considered legitimate by prevailing powers until the White Man deemed it not.
