He made them funny and quirky because they are supposed to be silly cartoon charact. But they also ended up being inspirational to Blaze in the same story because they're not *just* gag characters, even in a supporting role. Nishiyama's handling of them is almost perfect, I just wish he got to co-write a game with Maekawa.
