That's one of the things I really hate about this series.
There are barely any relationships where 2 people actually respect one another. Almost everyone that interacts with Naruto sees him as an annoying moron, Sasuke is rude and dismissive to all the people around him, Sakura's main defining trait is worshiping a guy that doesn't care about her and so on so forth. Naruto and Hinata are like one of the few people who act nice to one another but Hinata is barely present in the manga.
By comparison, I think ATLA does a much better job at this, since all of the main characters respect each other, with Toph being the only hard ass of the group but still caring about her friends.
