First of all, it was a children's hobby hijacked by manchildren who refuse to grow up, and because they have so much disposable income, they price kids out of yet another hobby (seriously, do you think a family can afford a gaming PC for a child? It's cheaper to buy a used car...).
It's cringe because you are a 20~30 yo wasting the best year of your life in front of a computer, and you are not even happy doing it. The apogee of "PC game culture" is not even playing anymore; it's buying stuff and posting on Reddit for internet points. Most people with LGBT keyboards don't even play video gaymes...
