Florida man here. I remember being 9 and that's about when the kids started acting like total savages. It was like a light switch turned on during the summer after 2nd grade and suddenly everyone was mean to each other nonstop until about a quarter of the way through 12th grade when they started to calm down and treat each other with basic human decency. Then they would even want to have reunions, wtf. Why would I ever want to see these people EVER again?

There were girls who would pay boys $5 or $10 to jump a kid and slam his skull into the concrete and just kick the shit out of him, claiming that some quiet fifth grader had raped her sister to death, when she had died of leukemia over the summer.

People would rip fixtures out of the school bathrooms. Shit would be smeared on the walls, either painting the whole wall with it or just drawing a deformed swastika or pentagram. False bomb threats were a monthly occurrence. Police with K9s were a common sight at my middle school. It was fucking hell.

I earned some respect at one point after challenging a kid to a fight after he stole $20 from me. The kid did not show up after school at the agreed location next to the molten tar barrels by the school cafeteria, but I was there, and he ended up at the bottom of the social ladder and was considered a coward.

The bus rides home were the best part of the day. The driver would often slam on the brakes when he saw one of his friends outside acting a fool, like taking a shit in the middle of a parking lot, or standing on a street corner in a woman's dress singing into an echo phone (pic related). He would then start yelling at the guy, and then at us, while the whole bus was just stopped there blocking traffic for like five minutes while he yelled at us "this is why you don't do drugs you little shits!"

Life got so much better when I moved 250 miles from that place, but some classmates fled the US totally and ended up in places like Japan or Oregon.
