Am I missing something with stygian assault? I thought this was supposed to be the end game multiplayer content. But multiplayer doesn't appear available on the higher difficulties?

Am I missing something stupid, like having to beat the low level stuff on multiplayer first to unlock it, or is this shit for whales only?
