It's so bizarre. Such a clumsily handled event. Never watched the show beyond Gen 3, but Jesus Christ I can't think of any media that fumbled something as badly as Battle Bond Greninja. It's like if Goku lost against Frieza after going Super Saiyan.
Battle Bond is so weird too, since in concept it's just an unusual form of Mega Evolution. Both transform the mon into a super form, both are powered by the bond with a trainer... It feels like it was just an excuse to give Greninja a mega without having to give one to the other starters. Like they shot themselves in the foot by not giving any of the shillmons from gen 6 access to the regions gimmick so they scrambled to be able to give Ash's heavy hitter for the gen a super special 'totally not a mega' form. It sucks because it could be a pretty cool concept if it wasn't just a sloppy bandaid on a self made problem.
