For me, gameplay is better than SH2. The story feels rushed and is nowhere as good as any of the other 3 main games.
SH1 is a solid horror story with a lot of small details about the world if you pay attention, SH2 is carried by its interesting characters and SH4 has Walter's story which is great despite the game being flawed. SH3 is just there, Heather is charismatic and it has its moments like the way Douglas - Heather develop some sort of bond, but beyond that the story never feels engaging. The secondary characters are also a bit dull compared to the other games, I like Douglas but beyond that the only remarkable moment is the 'They look like monsters to you?' dialogue, even Claudia feels like wasted potential. In other games you have Lisa, Cybil, Kauffman, Eddie, Angela, Eileen, Walter so it isn't even close
