Part 2
>On November 30, 2024, at the SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling event held at the Circus Studio in Bangkok, Pom Harajuku challenged Matcha, the reigning SETUP All-Asia Women’s Champion, in the main event. It was Pom’s first-ever challenge for a singles title.
>Up until then, Pom had stayed true to her own unique path, completely detached from championship belts. But if she could win a title in Thailand—her “second home,” where her “second” father had been stationed—she had made up her mind: she would finally tell her parents that she had become a pro wrestler.
>“At first, Mr. Koda told me, ‘You should tell your parents.’ But I couldn’t do it, so I just lied and said, ‘I told them.’ I was sure that if I told them, they’d immediately make me quit. I always thought, ‘When I’m good enough to wrestle in Thailand or Southeast Asia, that’s when I’ll tell them.’ So when this opportunity came up, I thought, ‘I have to win and tell Mom!’”
>In the end, it was her grandmother who spilled the secret before Pom had a chance to come clean herself. But to her surprise, her parents didn’t object at all.
>When asked, “Would you like your parents to come see one of your matches someday?” Pom tightened her lips into a pout and answered immediately, “Absolutely not.” At first, it seemed like she just didn’t want to worry them—but then she revealed the real reason:
>“Mom has such a loud voice. If she were in the audience, it’d just be way too noisy.”
>The champion, Matcha, trained in pro wrestling under Emi Sakura and Kaori Yoneyama. She's a uniquely unconventional wrestler with an unorthodox sense of style. Pomu may be considered a wrestling outlier—but Matcha is just as much of a wild card.
