The queue isn't actually a traditional Han Chinese hairstyle. It's Manchu. When the Manchus conquered China they forced their hairstyle on the Han under penalty of death, as a symbol of being subservient to their new masters.

When a Han Chinese man died, the family cut off his queue, so at least in the grave he can be free. Guess what you're not getting back when they lower you in the grave, Amerisharts? You still leave this earth with the cattlebrand of your masters between your legs.
