It's called the "MC as the side cast" strategy. The idea is that the side characters are always cooler than the main. Tendo Maya and Saijo Claudine from Revue Starlight, Levi from Attack on Titan etc. So if you want the MC to seem cooler, you just show them less.
I’ve seen this work well in Fate/Zero. Kiritsugu feels like a side character for 3/4 of the show until his backstory happens. Funny enough, Hatsune also has a backstory tied to some island, and hers shows up late too just like Kiritsugu. It makes me think the writers for MyMujica might have taken a bit of inspiration from Fate/Zero. The pacing lines up too. MyGO is slower, while Mujica is more climactic and fast-paced kinda like how Fate Zero season 1 and season 2 play out.
