I lived thru that era. Bono's too dumb to be esoteric in any single way, shape or form. The band even said his lyrics suck. Don't get me wrong. Rattle & Hum was peak U2. Then Bono must've seen Oliver Stone's The Doors movie and revamped the Achtung Baby album to sound and adopt a cringe identity crisis persona of a Jim Morrison wannabe. Then he named himself "The Fly" aka The Lizard King LMAO for the Zooropa album. Then Bono ditched that nonsense with their Pop album but they ended up trying to sound like a neutered version of nine inch nails and it was all really downhill from there. They became a sheer nuisance ever since. Remember that whole Apple fiasco when U2 gave every Applefag their latest album for free via iTunes and it pissed everybody off lol
