I can't speak for Drew, but Kenny teased Dawn over her hair, and the teasing was so bad she became afraid of getting her hair messy to the point where she developed a phobia of Plusle and Minun. That part could be forgiven since they were kindergarteners back then, but when he see Dawn again he keeps doing it. Then he expects her to just drop everything and come with him, but get this he challenges Ash to a battle for who gets to "keep" Dawn like she's a sack of potatoes or something. Kenny's dumb ass somehow manages to win, but Dawn still goes with Ash since Ash never agreed to Kenny's dumbass terms and just wanted a battle, and Dawn's not a prize to be won in a battle
