I found replacing the cpu pretty easy compared to soldering 4-ram chips. The stellar mod chip hot patches games to fix the compatibility issues. I've never really been fond of softmods, and tearing an xbox down and soldering in a modchip is less of a hassle for me.

I have not tried that patch, I was kinda wanting to the patch for the 1.5 version of the game to get released.
