>There is now a permanent chilling effect on Japanese studios that make games like these.

There none until 10 years ago they didn't have any access to a market outside of Japan. The chilling effect is that mobile games that have gatcha also are now visual novels. Meaning the mobage gatcha market effectively obliterated the Visual Novel and Eroge market.

>Even IF platform holders eased up a little bit, how are they even supposed to go back to making the games they used to?
If they went back to how it used to be they'd be selling DVDs of their games in Akiba. Even without Steam they have access to a global market these days via their own stores, their only problem is customer reach. Meaning they need to do better marketing.

They also need to find alternative ways to pay them that aren't Visa, MasterCard or American Express.

>It needs to be illegal to reject a release to games that have all been approved by ratings boards.

The primary reason for this isn't steam but CC providers that are exterting pressure on steam wanting to dictate morals. Get rid of them and you can do whatever you want.

>Aquaplus is getting sold off and probably sent to their grave soon after.
They didn't successfully transition into the mobage market yet they had Utawareumono, their fault they didn't adapt.

>Compile Heart/Idea Factory games are barely peaking at 20 Steam CCUs anymore and often not charting in the Famitsu top 30s
Because they're not adapting.
RTS games are also dead.

>This can't keep going on and all these studios are going to die.

I'm sorry to tell you this anon but they're already dead.
