I recently discovered that my family's history is a lie. They always told me my ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War. What I discovered is that was true...but on the losing side.

My ancestor was injured in battle and ended up being rescued and cared for by a woman who found him. By the time he was healthy enough to walk again the war was over. So he never reunited with his brigade and didn't return home to England. He married his rescuer, which eventually led to me.

I've contemplated if getting UK citizenship is something I should consider. It's funny because I love July 4th, but I realize now it's literally not a holiday for me because my family was on the other side of that.
