Mass protests continue in Belgrade, Serbia.
On the night of June 30, protesters blocked several major streets and erected barricades in response to arrests following the June 28 rally.
At that rally, radical demonstrators clashed with police. According to Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, 77 people were detained, 38 were arrested. 70 individuals were injured, including 48 police officers.
Similar protests took place in other Serbian cities, including Kragujevac, Novi Sad, and Niš.
The mass anti-government demonstrations have been ongoing for eight months. They are organized by student groups and opposition political forces. The main demand of the protesters is the dissolution of the current parliament and the holding of early parliamentary elections. President Vučić has refused to comply and stated that he is not concerned about the protests.
The demonstrators are also demanding accountability from the authorities over a major tragedy in Novi Sad, where in November 2024, the collapse of a railway station roof killed 16 people. The collapse has been attributed to corruption and misconduct during the construction of the facility.
