Anderson Cooper is an American broadcast journalist and political commentator. He anchors the CNN news broadcast show Anderson Cooper 360°. He is also a correspondent for 60 Minutes, produced by CBS News.
Anderson Cooper is the younger son of writer Wyatt Emory Cooper and artist Gloria Vanderbilt of the elite American Vanderbilt family. The Vanderbilt dynasty began with Cornelius Vanderbilt, an American business magnate who made his fortune in the railroad and shipping industries in the 1800s. He owned and operated more than 100 steamships, dominating the California and transatlantic shipping trade. He was on the board of directors for the Erie Railway, the Central Railroad of New Jersey, the Hartford and New Haven, and the New York and Harlem. He became president of New York and Harlem Railroad. He also purchased control of the Hudson River Railroad, the New York Central Railroad, and the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway. After his death, Corenlius’ son William Henry Vanderbilt and his grandsons Cornelius Vanderbilt II and William Kissam Vanderbilt took over the family’s railway investments.
