>Did these guy's not watch 79 and CCA? Genuine question since people skip them nowadays, did you watch anything besides 79 and CCA? Char's whole arc is that he tried to be a hero and the world completely beat him down. In '79 he fights to kill the Zabis for ruining his life and murdering his father (thereby permanently staining the reputation of his ideals), and he's even willing to let that slide and push for Newtypes to become dominant up until he gets an opportunity to kill Kycilia (After he talks with Amuro and Sayla). It's in Zeta that we see him genuinely try to 'be a real hero' via the AEUG, and that dream of his is destroyed in Z and desecrated further in ZZ. CCA doesn't show us a villain so much as it shows an utterly broken man who's trying to kill himself while desperately attempting something horrible for the sake of Newtypes.
He's not right but that doesn't mean the guy wasn't thoroughly fucked over from birth, and you only see that if you watch the other shows.
Letting him have a happy ending where he's completely away from all that and just gets to live while the unburdened pursue the Newtype dream is a happy ending.
