we were involved in the iran/iraq war keeping both sides alive and using their barbarian bloodlust to keep them killing each other. at the end of the conflict iran and iraq were both decades behind our regional allies like saudi arabia,kuwait,qatar,israel etc in stability and their economies. saddam then chimped out and attacked kuwait to steal their wealth which was under our protection. we then went and annihilated the Iraqi military making them run away like women. they all tried to run away and go home but we bombed their whole invasion force as it was leaving in an incident called "the highway of death" iraqis quiver in the presence of an american to this day. its in the DNA by now.
