I feel that the canon reveal that students can see each others' haloes but as blurry or generic haloes rather than the details individual ones that apparently only Sensei can see enhances that feel even more. The exact scenario you posted could be occuring but few students would be able to notice a halo if they're not expecting one, and the few that do wouldn't be able to identify which student it is anyway.
I actually remember seeing a comic that used this in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it detail where a teensy, generic halo was visible floating over the student's skirt to imply pregnancy (whole thing linked below)
