It's a crazy social climate.

There really are no strawmen anymore. If someone asks, "Will it be offensive to say that something is a trainwreck?," you may legitimately run into people saying that it's offensive to those who have lost loved ones or suffered life-altering injuries in a trainwreck. (Or a car crash.)

Nobody knows what the rules are anymore because entertainment media is run by people who think that the Little Mermaid's dad being shirtless is inappropriate and the US government is run by people sending out fascist dog whistles.
