Russia was the largest British ally who was called to send troops to suppress the colonial rebellion, and Russia refused citing the fact England should handle their own domestic issues and maybe treat their colonists fairly rather than making war against them. This followed the Russian intervention in the French & Indian War, in which Britain called for Russia to support them so they could gain more colonial territory and then they backstabbed Russia and made peace without them and refused to allow Russia any gains in the peace treaty. They also collaborated with the Continental Navy and hired several prominent Revolutionary War admirals to their own Navy, including John Paul Jones.
