>Has there been a build that lowers the relevance of mechs as much as possible?
Can't think of one, but it's not hard to see how to do.

1. Pick the Power Armor size - so that they're still very much stuck in infantry combat (and thus not "special"). Or Skyscraper, where they basically just stand around waiting to serve as.finishing moves.

2. Get psionics, magic, or both. That way the mecha are just one more battlefield innovation

3. Pick Yuna Item for the same reason, and do her mission. Now there are.killer AIs on the battlefield, too.

4. Take the Operation Deep Strike mission, where you steal Eternal Arms's blueprints. That way no side has a big tech advantage.

5. Spend heavy on multiple bases, so you have as much infantry as possible. Also considsr spending big on magic/psi facilities, or other non-mech boosting facilities.

6. Take the gremlin/no mech personal drawback.

7. Take companions like Isabelle (leader of the Valkyrie anti-mech force), the various Drivers and Infantry.

8. Don't take Yulie or Jasmine (both R&D girls) or any of the Pilots. And don't take the Takeshi plot line. They all shift the focus back to the mecha.

9. Avoid missions where you have to go against mecha.

10. Don't ally with the Technic Union.

That leaves a lot of options to play with, like being guerilla fighters, spies, conventional mercs with standard weapons, or a merc group specializing in one of the "rival" advances (psi, magic, AI . . .)

Not necessarily how I would do it, but definitely a viable path forward
