I think the issue is that Falcom are clearly more interested in trying to set up for the endgame of the entire series with Calvard and as a result the actual worldbuidling of Calvard as a setting fell to the wayside. The Time Sept-Terrion doesn't really seem to have any strong connection to Calvard itself, Van is tied up in Demon Lord lore and Agnes is tied up in Epstein stuff so you have your protagonists all being tied up in larger series mysteries instead of anything Calvard specific. It's insane that there will soon be 4 games of Calvard yet the worldbuilding for Calvard as a setting still feels paper thin. It just feels like an unimportant backdrop for the plot instead of being a part of it. I guess they could turn it around in Kai 2 but I don't think they will and they clearly don't see it as a priority and it's probably too late anyway.
