furfags are hated because they flooded the internet with their garbage and low quality art & manners, forcing everyone to like them and not abiding by proper etiquette
kemonofags in japan never did that to the extent of furries and are thus not hated, or not more than any niche fetish when it tries to force itself on spaces where it's not common, anyway
as a community that closely takes from japanese culture, it's an important difference and naturally one should take care to not view things from a culturally inappropriate lens
