Every new player eventually reaches a point where the game "clicks" and you start to understand it. The reality is, it's all pattern recognition, the game is designed so you will be caught off guard the first time you see something, eat shit to it, and figure out how to not eat shit to it anymore, even World First Raiders will be doing this when new encounters come out, you could do the same fight 10000 times and become a pro at it, but it won't mean shit since the next fight will have completely different mechanics.
That said, you can more or less figure out how things work if you pay attention to them, in normal modes you will hardly ever die unless you are completely oblivious to things, However there is several things you can do to start to identify things out.
First off: Castbars, 99,9% of enemies in this game does them, and learning what a Snapshot is can help you out to greed dps, or know to prepare for an upcoming mechanic.
Then you got buffs on the boss, or debuffs on yourself, hovering your mouse over, they will have text that may give you a clue on what to do.
And third, the game uses universal markers often, you may be doing a new encounter and see the same icon again in a fight, then you'll know "oh this is like that mechanic where I gotta keep moving or I will be frozen in place!"
