I've got a similar amount stashed + a bit more in boomer stocks and ETFs. I actually think I kind of fucked up to be honest, I had a very cushy job driving trains and would make about $100k USD/year if I put in a little bit of overtime here or there, but the work in driving a train is dead easy and to be honest I enjoyed it a lot because most of the time was spent cruising through nice scenery while listening to music or a podcast. It almost didn't even feel like a job.
For some reason that I don't really understand now, I chucked that in and started an electrical apprenticeship, so now I'm making more like $70k USD. It'll double when I finish up the apprenticeship part and qualify, but a big part of me now just thinks I should have kept my enjoyable job driving trains. I'm realising that I don't NEED to make a kajillion dollars a year at work if my portfolio is as sizeable as it is at the age that I'm at now. I'm already halfway to retirement so why did I try reinventing the wheel giving up a job I really liked just to make a little bit more?
