I’m going to be a nerd emoji for the second time in this thread and base some of this story off of the real history of USS St. Louis. This story can work after a regular WWII with shipgirls, or the anime canon of Azur Lane where there is no Commander and the shipgirls commanded themselves to victory - doesn’t really matter. Point is, in 1951 the US Navy, seeking to reduce its surplus after it ran the ship printer during the war, sent St. Louis to Brazil where she was commissioned as Almirante Tamandaré.
She was stricken from the naval register in 1973, which can be interpreted as her retirement, at which point she probably settled somewhere in one of Brazil’s major cities, and with plenty of money from her career in the USN and Brazilian navies, she probably spends on fancy cars and clothes just because she can and often goes for joyrides.
She probably spent a lot of time in the entertainment or gambling districts, making a name for herself as a flirty party girl independent of her previous career as a shipgirl, and it’s there she was approached by a scout from an escort agency and offered the role. Likely accepted because she decided it’d be fun and it was off to the races from there.
Or if anybody wants a different setting, when St. Louis was eventually sold to shipbreakers in Taiwan in 1980, she foundered off of South Africa while being towed there, so there’s historical basis if you want to repeat the entire story there if you want. Or you like blacked. Either or.
