Islam is green for vegetation and fertility, yet they usually live in deserts. they say it's based on their vision of heaven which is a garden but that would mean green is what they want, not what they have. Islam is green anyway, specifically the Fatimid dynasty who were Shia which is why Iran is also green. they also represent the green in the Palestine/Pan-Arab flag.

Catholics and St Patrick are green because Catholic countries usually are green, Ireland definitely is. They would like more of it though.
