A whore is woman (country/people) that cuck their man (God). A whore of Babylon means that the whore originated or came from Babylon. Considering that all (or nearly all) esoteric thought and modern religion is directly from the jews, who learned it in their Babylonian captivity, I would say look no further than the name itself to figure out who its referring to. Furthermore, in Revelation 11, Jerusalem is called Sodom and Egypt, if you needed any other prodding as to who is being talked about here
