What value do you see in everyone throwing a bunch of random stuff in a pile? I wouldn't have had more fun if I was stripped out of complexity and coherence of modpacks. Modpacks don't ruin modding, a lack of good ones and the underappreciation of the little of them that already exist does. You think 95% of modpacks are bad because modpacks are bad as a concept? No, they're bad because they suck. Pack devs are either clueless about game design and don't know how to create an experience that isn't miserable, or intentionally appeal to the lowest common denominator since it's the laziest and most fruitful option (kitchen sinks, low-effort garbage with neat packaging, general trend hopping). Most fruitful if you put surface-level attention over genuine, long-form appreciation, that is.
>It also has had knock-on effects for the development of modding in general
I don't like expert packs either, but to say that they were a detriment to modding? I don't see the connection since they're quite rare and appeal to a very small portion of the playerbase. And quests, why? There are many ways to screw them up, and everyone usually does, but when you don't? If you still have a problem, I don't understand the basis of it
>The popularity of modpacks has still impacted you
Yeah, positively. I started to truly appreciate modded Minecraft only after I started playing Technic packs. All I've imagined before was a bunch of random stuff thrown together, but now I get themed, well-thought-out experiences that regard coherence, even balanced to a degree. More of that, please. They have problems, but it's still far less problems than I have with almost every non-Technic pack made today, with all the configuration options that didn't even exist back when Technic were in their glory. Not the tools' fault barely anyone uses them properly. Them not existing in the first place, how you would've preferred it, wouldn't have made things better, and totally wouldn't have "saved" modding.
