The Grande Hotel Beira closed in 1963, nearly 10 years before Mozambique gained independence. It closed DURING Colonial rule. It actually has an interesting post-independence history, with the government using it as a refugee camp briefly. Today it's a local landmark for UrbExers and is home to a handfull of small street vendors, but unfortunately most people will only know about it from this one image. Shame
