It was a forgotten memory, because not all of it was remembered.
People forgot was that NO ONE was on the side of the protesters. Not the media, not the police, not even the campus administrators. People pretend they were on the side of the protesters years AFTER the incident.
As another example, after 9/11, you'll be basically blacklisted if you talk about how pointless it was going to fight in Iraq (like what happened to the Dixie Chicks), and then years later, everyone pretend they were against the war since the start.
If America learned their mistakes and remembered, how come the charges on the National Guardsmen or military personnel directly involved in the incident were dropped. How come they're still arresting student protesters today?
