We deserved it because we were too arrogant, both the fans and the players. I remember seeing an interview by one of the Brazilian players about the talk they had during the half time break: Brazil was losing 4-0. Any other team in the world would have been humble enough to recognize they were getting fucked and changed strategy somewhat, or played defensively to try to contain the score. Our squad was all like "we're Brazil, let's keep attacking and turn this around" only to get fucked even harder on the second half.
On a spiritual side of things, I believe that God occasionally tries to humble the peoples for their arrogance. Americans think the world of themselves and their armed forces and lose wars. Brazilians live and die football, and get fucked when they get too cocky (Uruguay did it first in 1950, you guys did it again in 2014)
