If we look at Roland in Ruina, he felt guilt and anger from feeling punished for merely wanting some happiness for himself
And Rodya is no different. Pick whatever reason you prefer, be it her killing the tax collector out of a genuine desire to help change things for the better, or simply because she wanted to be the hero, whatever the case may be, she too got punished for seeking out her own happiness, and while that desire isn't what she's always pursuing, it's what drives her actions and decisions to this day
