>actually thinks there's a lowercase variant of the same word in the original language
You're doing exactly what I said! You're imposing onto the text your christian baggage. And we already went over this, that's nothing but an example of divine agency. Anyway here I'll try again to satisfy your silly arbitrary requirement. Jesus is God in the exact same sense the authors of the text I am referencing believed about other human figures that were also called Gods. Jesus specifically denied being called the actual God btw

>20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. - John 17
His followers are one in the Father the same way Jesus is. And anyway you're butchering the verse you just quoted. Let's take a look at the context. Jesus specifically denies their accusation by pointing out to them how the scripture uses the term. He could have said yeah I am the one true God, here's why but no he denied their accusations. And keep in mind their accusations mean nothing.
>19 The Jews who heard these words were again divided. 20 Many of them said, “He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?” 21 But others said, “These are not the sayings of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”
The bible also specifically mentions that they made up claims against him from thin air Mark 14:55-59
