You don't NEED religion for that. But there's many that do want that kind of structure and faith in their lives, and turning that faith towards helping fellow man is like the only good end of Christianity and it's been bastardized and stomped on for years now by prosperity gospel bullshit and grifters that don't believe a word of the actual text and just want to use the Bible as a cudgel to beat anyone they don't like.
