The 50's/60's were considered retro in the 80's; the 70's were considered retro in the late 90s and 00's; the 80's in the late 00's and 10's; the 90's in the very late 10's to now; and the transition to the 00's becoming retro is starting to happen. Its the result of a generation of people hitting adulthood and using the media and pop culture they grew up with as the inspiration for what they make as adults and the younger generations liking those throw backs to their parent's childhood times. Its why "Back to the Future" was made when it was and "That 70's show" aired when it did. If anything the unusual part is how long the 80's stayed retro compared to the 90's, but that is a result of media companies being so averse to taking a risk on new things that they just kept trying to revive 80's IP's for way too long and the average age of people in positions of authority in culture/fashion/media getting older and refusing to just finally hand it off. Sorry anon, we all get older, and what we were into as kids becomes "retro" or "a throwback" eventually. Best to just accept that and move on. Your parents did when you thought their stuff was considered retro.
