The season started pre-production in 2021 after they bought the rights from Gainax, they animated it between 2022 and 2023, they showed trailers and promo art at anime conventions during that time, they had to delay the show so they could re-animate and edit all the black characters not to have pink lips (Garterbelt had them in the initial trailer and promo art), that's why the show feels like it was made years ago...because it actually was
