Hathaway is supposed to be unlikeable. You're suppose to like Kenneth. Hathaway is the MC but no one says he's a protagonist. He's a terrorist trying to assassinate politicians. His decision to target the feds is valid because they ARE destroying earth slowly while keeping the more hospitable areas for the rich, BUT his chosen path is foolish and delusional. Hathaway fancies himself a descendant of Char's philosophy/goals but has neither the charisma nor the backing of a state that Char had. He is doomed to eventually be caught in a trap because he is an unlikable, arrogant, insecure and honestly kind of pathetic character. Debatably the villain but yeah he's def unlikable on purpose. Although I suppose some people might just be to annoyed by him hero or villain.
