the loss to Lego is not as valuable as the potential information they would get, if the test is "successful"
WILL Star Wars fans slop-up complete and utter slop? blatantly, gross-ly overpriced, no-effort design, etc... due to the way Star Wars has been creeping up in value and declining in quality, Lego probably had a feeling like they could get away with doing less, but they needed a "test" that was so obvious it could leave no doubt.
it's the only explanation to that convergence of disaster set
it's not up to me, or you, or the 12-100 people who read Lego discussions on basket weaving site. that data will be collected worldwide by actual customers. good luck to us all.
