Russian Soldier on Leave Accused of Stabbing Grandparents to Death and Fleeing in Their Car
A Russian soldier home on leave from the war in Ukraine is the prime suspect in the brutal double murder of his own grandparents, who were found stabbed to death in their apartment in the Russian republic of Bashkortostan.
The bodies of Vladimir Ryazanov, 75, and his wife Zifa, 64, were discovered in the village of Mesyagutovo in early June after a concerned relative, unable to contact them for three days, called the police. According to the independent news outlet ASTRA, officers forced entry into the apartment to find a grisly scene: the couple had been killed with multiple stab wounds to their necks and backs, and the home had been ransacked.
The suspect was quickly identified as the couple's 20-year-old grandson, Denis Khusainov, a soldier serving in military unit 73795. Investigators believe he murdered his grandparents while on leave from the front lines in Ukraine. He had been staying with the elderly couple since May 11.
After the murders, Khusainov allegedly stole his grandfather's Lada sedan and fled the region. The abandoned car was later discovered in a ditch in the neighboring Perm Krai. After a nearly two-week manhunt, Khusainov was reportedly apprehended in the city of Perm and has since confessed to the crime. A motive for the killings has not been established.
The murder has sent shockwaves through the local community. The grandfather, Vladimir Ryazanov, was a respected former paratrooper who, in 2022, was officially honored by the local government "for his difficult service and for the honest fulfillment of his military duty." That duty now stands in stark contrast to the horrific crime his own grandson is accused of committing.
